Judy lives in Chicago. She is an actress whose frustration with the lack of stories by and about women, especially over 50, has led her to writing them.
An emerging playwright, she creates alternative structures that reflect the voices she has lived and heard. Her current focus is the destruction and reconstruction of patriarchal, canonical stories, recreating them from a woman's point of view. Driven by the aural and visual senses, she explores methods of using those tools as text.
Her current play, GERUTHA AND MARGARET, received a staged reading at Chicago Dramatists this spring, was a semi-finalist in the 2021 Garry Marshall Theatre New Play Competition, and a 2022 O'Neill National Playwrights Conference semi-finalist. Works in development include EVERNA and a solo show yet to be named.
She strives to make herself uncomfortable with her work. If you never go out on a limb, you will always have an obstructed view.
In fall 2021 Judy will begin her MFAW at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. An alumna of Northwestern University, she has a BS Speech/Theatre.
